Urban Electric Mobility in EU Policy Context

02. November 2014

In the frame of the E-Mobility project, the Danish partner FDT produced a report, reflecting urban e-mobility in a European policy context.

A key assumption of the report is that the distribution of urban goods is part of the daily transport work in the cities, but it also influences negatively on a variety of aspects and activities in the urban areas. Examples for that are congestions, the decrease in the availability of space on the roads, because of the loading and unloading operations of the freight vehicles and local pollution in form of emissions, noises and smells. The society expresses a desire for sustainable, convenient, effective and environmentally friendly solutions to minimize the negative effects of urban distribution.

Through its so-called "urban mobility package", the EC has already taken steps to analyze the current situation and the best practices, to provide the Member States with the financial support that they need to make the necessary changes in the urban mobility. Hereby the EC wants to promote innovation and an exchange of best practices as a solution to the problems and to encourage the interaction between the Member States on the issue.

This E-Mobility NSR report analyzes the different factors that influence the deployment of electric vehicles on the EU EV market. Most of all, the role of the EU policies in that process is examined and the assistance these policies can provide for the building of a strong brand for EVs, with a special focus on a unique urban electric vehicle, to address the distinctive mobility and environmental challenges in an urban environment.
