High Value Low Carbon design unit - Northumbria University (UK)
16. February 2012The High Value Low Carbon (HVLC) team, as a unique design "entity" within the School of Design and the Centre for Design Research (CfDR) at Northumbria University, aims to stimulate and facilitate the low carbon economy by envisaging new value at a time of dynamic industrial change. This is accomplished by acting as a System Integrator for companies and emerging technologies to create a better, cleaner and richer world. The unit is part of a consortium of vehicle manufacturers and their suppliers, which to date has worked with companies such as Nissan, Avid, ZET, Petec, Sanko Gosei, Labone, Thomas Swan and Bayer on a variety of low carbon vehicle projects which are designed to enter production. As well as working with the dedicated HVLC team, partners can collaborate with undergraduate and postgraduate students and/or work with the Centre for Design Research to develop their concepts.
Current projects include, amongst other exterior and interior styling and IT integration:
- ZET – Electric Motor-home - Developing the Next Generation Motor Home
- Electric Vehicle Wireless Charging Concept
- Electric Vehicle Intelligence – Advanced sat-nav systems which would also alert drivers when their battery power is running low
- A Portable Electric Battery Carrier
