German National Platform for Electric Mobility revises outlook on German EV targets

August 2012According to the 3rd report of the German National Platform for Electric Mobility (NPE), Germany is unlikely to reach its envisaged target of 1 mio. electric vehicles by 2020 if the EV programme is not changed. The monetary incentives of the government's programme are seen as inadequate so that Germany may be left 400,000 units short of its 2020 goal.
Yet 1 mio. electric cars on Germany’s roads may still be feasible, given that more and more cars are introduced into the market over the next years, e.g. 15 EVs alone from German car manufacturers are expected to be on the market by the end of 2014. Moreover, the German population is traditionally fond of German OEMs and their premium brands so that this may give the necessary impulse for a change. (Source: EV Update).
