First German electric mobility law to bring more EVs on the street

Germany’s minister of transfer Alexander Dobrindt is confident that, in 2014,  the first electric mobility law will be passed. According to the newspaper RP-online, the minister stated that EV buyers can expect a set of incentives, for example, preferred parking and access to bus lanes for electric vehicles which proved extremely successful in Norway (see E-Mobility NSR project report). However, especially the preferred access to bus lanes is criticed by public transport providers as well as NGOs as this may congest the lanes currently reserved for public transport, taxis and emergency vehicles. 

Further aims of the new law resemble EV financing at reduced rates of interest, public procurement and the extension of the charging infrastructure network. These incentives are supposed to contribute to the government’s aim to bring 1 million EV on German roads by 2020. With currently 98000 EV and PHEV among 43,9 million German cars, this may be an ambitious goal.
