Earth Hour EV race during candlelight
05. April 2012
30 March 2012, Hedehusene, Denmark
There was not much car racing during this EV race in which six local citizens took in Hedehusene near Høje Taastrup. The municipality in Høje Taastrup and the EV supplier ChoosEV hosted this EV race in the frame of the E-Mobility NSR project. However, it was not a traditional car race - on the contrary! This evening was all about driving in the most energy saving way. Test drivers paid attention to the flow meter in particular, and not to the speedometer. The flow meter showed whether they drove economically, or it went up in the “red zone” if driving was not efficient.
The reason for having this environmentally friendly EV race event on a Saturday evening was due to “Earth Hour”. Between 08.30 pm and 09.30 pm there was an hour during which everyone was encouraged to switch off the electrical light to manifest the global need to limit our energy consumption.
“We thought this would be an obvious way to strike a blow for the future individual and energy saving means of transport, the EV”, says Steen Olesen, Climate Consultant in Høje Taastrup municipality.
