Nissan Leaf production starts at Northeast England plant
02. April 2013Close to the city of Newcastle, car maker Nissan has officially started up production of the new electric model “Leaf” in the city of Sunderland. Here, Nissan now begins to build the new model of the fully electric vehicle for the European market. More than 100 updates compared to the previous edition, the Leaf uses advanced lithium-ion batteries which are being manufactured in the company’s own UK battery plant next to the factory.
It is reported that together, the battery plant and Leaf production are supporting jobs for more than 2,000 people in the UK car industry, including more than 500 directly at Nissan.
